Prof. Dr Marco Corazzari

Applied Biology

Prof. Marco Corazzari, PhD, is Associate Professor of Applied Biology. He is also the Head of the Cell Signaling & Cell Death Unit, and Manager of the Advanced Microscopy and Bioimaging Facility at the newly established CAAD.  He has been working for many years in the field of Cell Stress and Death, focusing on ER Stress (UPR) and Autophagy. Particularly, he is interested in dissecting the molecular mechanisms linking the two stress pathways under both physiological and pathological conditions leading to adaptation, inflammation, or cell death. Recently, he also focused his research on the recently described new form of non-apoptotic cell death process, named Ferroptosis, and on its impact on cancer, neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases. To further explore the latter point, he also established a ‘Gut-Ex-Vivo System’, consisting of dynamic intestinal organ culture, and a ‘Dynamic Co-Culture System’, based on dynamic cultures cells from the gut-brain axes. He is the author of 70 scientific papers, three book chapters and he is regularly invited for stage presentations at both domestic and international conferences. Scopus Author ID: 6603241477; h-index 31; 7018 citations.
