Prof. Dr.Sci. Michael Gasik, belongs to the school of chemical technology (AALTO CHEM), combining materials science, biotechnology and chemistry. He has over 280 publications and patents and over last 25 years has carried out 11 EU projects, 2 IEA projects and more than 15 national projects. H-index: 20, ORCID 0000-0002-5782-7987, Scopus Author ID 23018335100. He also has two doctoral degrees: in materials technology and in composite materials. He has been acting as visiting professor in Japan, Italy, Estonia and Portugal. He is a member of the management committee (representative of Finland) in biomedical sectors COST MP1005, MP1301, CA17116, representative of Finland in the IEA Executive Committee (OECD), member of the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS), European Connected Health Alliance (ECHA), Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS), full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Highest Education (Ukraine), Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (vice-chairman of the Finland Chapter), Aalto Health Platform and honorary member of TechNet Alliance and Center for MEMS (University of Minho, Portugal). He has more 20 years of experience in biomaterials sector. He is currently a reviewer in i.e. Nature, Scientific Reports, Journal of Physics, Acta Biomaterialia, Journal of Mechanical Behaviour of Biomedical Materials; member of several editorial boards and the editor of the “Materials” journal issue “Translational Research in Dental Materials”. In 2020 he was appointed at the position of EORS Ambassador in Finland.
Furthermore, Prof. Michael Gasik has more than 25 years experience in technology transfer being member and leader in MatTechNet (1991-1996), BC-Net (EC DG Enterprise, 1993-1998) and national technology transfer and private consulting activities in EU, Japan and the Middle East. He is also an expert and rapporteur to European bodies (EC/REA, FCH2 JU, CleanSky JU, ERC, ESA, ECHA, COST, ERANET, framework programs) since 1993. He acted as an external expert and evaluator to national funding authorities in Portugal, Cyprus, Estonia, Luxembourg. Prof. Michael Gasik is the developer of new biomaterials testing methods (especially aimed on 3R and 1R technologies), a co-founder of a biomedical start-up company, an inventor of new innovative 2.5D scaffolds for in vitro research, elaboration of materials characterization and multi-objective design and optimization, backed up with a proper multiphysical modelling and advanced data processing. He as a project manager will be responsible for carrying respective project activities in AALTO.
